This class will explore ways of creating print designs with the traditional method of hand woodblock printing. We will start by designing a pattern to repeat, and carving it into a wooden block no larger than 7-8 inches in diameter. Depending on color and design, multiple blocks may be required. We will work to hand print our designs on Indian cotton cloth using natural vegetable dyes. Students will work independently and in groups to develop pattern designs. Students will have the opportunity to produce prints or products with the patterns they have created.
